All that's left is the presentation.... And  I say bring it. I'm ready to get this over with and graduate :)

6.7.2011

I have fixed my academic portfolio and progress book. Now I am working on my profession portfolio.
I will fihish it today. Hope it will look very nice too.

Almost there.

So this weekend I had to finish the Process Book. It only took me about a couple hours on friday evening, because I had already designed most of it already, but I decided to make the book smaller than I originally had it, so I just had to move everything and scale it down. Then my scanner at home broke, so I had to go my father's work to use his scanner, and that thing is slower than a snail walking backwards on a turtle shell. That took a long time to scan all the exams and essays.

Anyway, I spent saturday working on my professional portfolio. Sunday was my wife's birthday, so I only worked for like 20 minutes. ALMOST DONE. =D
Over the weekend i worked on editing my process book. I needed to separate my descriptions of my work from my self analysis. Today i reprinted my book to be handed in again. I also started putting together my presentation of my professional portfolio. It is very similar to my academic portfolio, but i have deleted some projects and added in some work that i have done outside of class. My plan for tomorrow is to design my leave behind item. We are almost done !

Mumblemumblemumble...

So, the quarter is ending.

Yes, it is.

We are graduating.

Yes, we are.

Projects are due.

Mmhm.

But who's almost done?

*Raises hand*

I still need to finish up my professional portfolio, but I've finished my "leave-behind", and I think it's relatively interesting enough for people to want to at least take a look at it. I figured making a camoflauge-colored business card and throwing a bunch of them around the forest floor would be a good self-marketing decision. (Kidding.)

Nah, it's a little better than that.

progress

Finishing final touches on the professional portfolio and website. I am adding the illustration work I have done for my employer.

Leave Behind

working on a leave behind yay! :)
I had to reprint and rebind my academic and process book because I did not do so well production wise. But that is over! Now I am working on my leave behind and finishing up my professional portfolio. I am keeping it consistent with my academic and process book. I am stressed out right now. All my classes end this thursday!

LASW WEEK!!! =(

I'M GLAD TO BE DONE WITH THE PROCESS BOOK AND ACADEMIC PORTFOLIO. NOW I'M PUTTING EVERYTHING TOGETHER FOR THE PROFESSIONAL BOOK, AND THE WEBSITE. I AM A LITTLE SAD THE THE QUARTER IS ALMOST OVER, BUT I AM PROUD OF MYSELF, FOR EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED

nothing to it

I was unsatisfied with how my process book turned out so i'm turning in a new & improved one today. Since i'm working from my academic portfolio, my professional portfolio should be done in no time. I have yet to start on my leave-behind but i know exactly what i want to do, i just have to Do it.

It's all about the cover

I have everything done and now i am just working on the cover. I am about 90% done with that. i think it looks great and really ties in my theme. I so i'll be finishing up my presentation and it should be smooth sailing from her on out :) Looking forward to ending the year with a bang.... not literally (you don't have to worry)

Michaelene Baldi

woo woo

Presentation day is getting closer and I'm almost completely done with my professional portfolio and web presence. I finally feel like a huge weight is going to be lifted off of my shoulders and I'm sure my classmates feel the same way. good luck everyone.

ALMOST THERE

STILL TOUCHING UP A COUPLE OF THINGS WITH MY PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO AND WEB PRESENCE, STILL TRYING TO MAKE THEM CONSISTENT WITH EACH OTHER. THE LAST DAY IS COMING UP SOONER THEN I KNOW IT, I CAN SEE THE LIGHT. EVERYTHING IS ALMOST DONE I CANT WAIT.

I can see the finish line!

I'm so close to being finished with my web presence. I decided to use Wix instead of carbonmade since there are many more customizable options- I LOVE customizable options! :) I still have to tweak a few things before it is finished- fingers crossed that I can actually figure out how to make the "tweaks." I was able to link my wix portfolio to my domain name, so it is still sarahwinterdesign.com. Too bad I put my carbonmade address onto my academic portfolio and resume. Ahhhhhh!

I also just have some minor things to add to my professional portfolio and I'll be finished with that.

All I'm really worried about at this point are my leave behinds . . .

Almost There!

Well, I finished what I needed to turn in, now I'm putting final touching on my professional portfolio and web site. Can't wait till this week is over. I'm so ready for this class to be over.

Yay!!!

Finish my portfolio and process book now I am just working on finishing up my professional portfolio and web page then I am finished....

Thursday, June 2, 2011

Finish.

I am very happy mines finally done. I will reprint it because of some mistakes.

Rip

Figured it was going to be not so good, but it was bad =/ .. its gona be a lonnng weekend

Tired...

Well right now I am waiting for Beth to approve and sign my academic portfolio and process book. I hope I don't have to do major changes. I JUST WANT TO BE DONE. I feel I have my web presence done. Now I just need to add projects to my professional portfolio.

Done...I think.

Got my signatures, I just need Beth's. I was kinda stressing but I'm finally done now. Whew!

DONE!

This was the hardest and toughest class for me. It took too much time that I hardly had. I spent nights and the little time I had working on this book. I redid my academic portfolio about 6 times because I wanted it look a specific way but didn't like any of the styles I had worked on. At about 5 a.m. Saturday morning I finished but still didn't like it. I knew I had no more time so I had to go with what I had done. I really took the time and worked hard on it. My logo represents me as an individual.

I am really glad this quarter is almost over.

Almost Done! :)

Between Tuesday and today I finished up my process book and designed my paper. I'm so happy to be done with these components! I'm also almost done with my Professional Portfolio, so I get to finalize my website and do my "leave behinds" this weekend.

FINALLY!!!

EVERYTHING IS ALL GOOD TO GO JUST GOTTA ASSEMBLE A COUPLE MORE THINGS. THE LAST COUPLE DAYS HAVE BEEN PRETTY BIZZY BUT SEEING HOW GOOD THE FINISHED PRODUCT OF MY WORK TURNED OUT, I FEEL IT WAS WELL WORTH IT. NOW IM ABOUT TO START WORKING ON MY PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO AND GET IT WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE, IT SHOULD'NT BE TO MUCH THO.

Wednesday, June 1, 2011

I'm pretty sure I'm done :)

So I finished everything, I'm just trying to come up with a  creative cover for my professional portfolio. I want to come up with a home made feel to the book but I still want it to look very professional.  I have a few ideas in mind so know it's all about trial and error.

So we'll see what happens.

See ya~

headache

I'm hoping to get a lot before I leave today. My goal is to have at least my process book print-ready. Here I go...

Progress

I am close to competition of my Academic Portfolio. With some slight tweaks and adding in text I should be finished by this evening. I have noticed one error today, when I updated my Masada logo, I didn't change the logo on the bottle as well. Over the weekend I improved on my Extinction Exhibit Logo and I am pleased with the changes I made.

Seriously

Cant believe i'm almost done, way closer than I thought Id be, everything is in place, just sharpening and fine tuning, color and precision of the actual layout, wow its starting to sink in now, almost DONE!

Printing

I'm trying to print my book. So close to being done, I hate these last-minute snags. I figured this would be a good time to post a blog since I'm just sitting in class waiting for the printer.

ALMOST DONE!!!!!

this weekend was good, Im glad it was a holiday weekend, I got a lot of stuff done. I finish my process book, then realize that i forgot to narrate on each piece. With the academic portfolio, I'm almost finish, just need to add some of my sketches and my design statement. Other than that, I'm looking forward thursday, when i turn everything in

Crunch time

the next 2 days are going to be long and tedious. Putting the finishing touches and making sure everything is the way that I want it to be. I am starting to get nervous since we are nearing the due date and presentation but I know I will have a good finished product. So I wish myself and everyone else luck in finishing their academic portfolio and process book.

work work work

i need to do more work.

-Tim

about ready to print

Although I have not been in class lately due to some family issues I have however been doing a lot of work on my portfolio and process book which is printed I just need to print my portfolio once I finish with some more details. I look forward to seeing the overall look once printed and everything.
Just adding descriptions to my academic portfolio, should be done and printed by this evening. Process book is complete also. So far so good... now just to get some signatures : )

Academic Portfolio Complete!

This weekend I wrapped up my academic portfolio, and now it's printed and ready for signatures :) Today I'll be working on putting the finishing touches on my process book and printing it out! Busy, busy, busy- but happy to be completing things!
I will paint out my portfolio tomorrow hope it look well. Almost done!

Final Stage Not Completed Yet :/

I have made a lot of progress this weekend. There have been changes on my portfolio covers only, I'm still extremely happy with the layout of all my books.

I had an interview in the duplicating department here at Cal State but unfortunately I didn't get the job :( but this gave me a lot of experience on interviewing.

I can't wait to be done with this, I'm sure a lot of us are. I have been revisiting my web page and I am also updating it day by day
Glad to say I am done with my academic portfolio I just need to print it and have them signed. I am halfway done with the process book. I need to do scan the previous art history papers still. I finished my essay just need to design the layout for it. I cant wait for all this to be over!

Oy.

Just doing the final touches on everything right now. I can't wait to get this done. I still need to get all the signatures, though. Yikes.

Incidentally, my Pepsi is of normal stature today.

BIZZY WEEKEND

THIS WEEKEND I BARELY HAD A CHANCE TO ENJOY MYSELF BECAUSE I'VE BEEN SO BIZZY TRYING TO COMPLETE EVERYTHING. BUT IM GLAD TO SAY THAT I'VE GOT A LOT DONE. IM PRINTING MY ACADEMIC PORTFOLIO TODAY SO I CAN COLLECT SOME AUTOGRAPH'S. THE PROCESS BOOK IS COMPLETE I JUS HAVE TO GO OVER IT AGAIN. BUT ALL IN ALL EVERYTHING IS LOOKIN GOOD.

Nothing too exciting....

Well not much has changed since last class. I am only waiting to get Kurt's signature today and then Beth's and then my academic book will be done. I also finished my process book, my website, and my interview paper. My professional portfolio is done as well I just need to figure out how I want to bind it. I'm glad to be done with everything early, that way I can focus on presenting my work well.

Other then that, not much to report on, so see you in class :)

Thursday, May 26, 2011

yayz

I've made a lot of progress on my process book over the weekend and today in class. Things are coming along nicely but I still feel I have a lot more to do. Hopefully I'll have something solid for Tuesday so I can get it reviewed by Beth before we turn it in Thursday.

Enjoy the 3-day weekend! :D
I did a practice print today, and i like the way it's looking. However, some of the pages of solid color look stripy. I am going to do a test print at kinkos of those pages and see if they turn out nicer. If not, i plan on having my projects printed and ready to sign on tuesday : )

Solo Dolo

I decided to stay home today just cause I get a little distracted when I'm in class. But my academic portfolio and process book are coming along nicely. Not quite done yet but they will be done and ready to be presented by thursday.

Oof.

I am way stressed out about all of this. Still putting everything together. I just realized that I've been focusing completely on my portfolios, and I have almost nothing done for my process book. Oy. Time to get that done.

Feeling better

Almost done with Academic Portfolio, website, and Professional Portfolio. So this weekend I am going to focus on the process book.

green and orange

I've been slowly working but the plan is to kick into over gear this weekend. My cover has evolved once again by I dropping the teal for green and orange. These new colors portray the carefree and imaginative feeling I am trying for.

Yay!

I have gone back and forth a lot on the look I want for my book, and especially after talking to Beth about printing techniques it's really made it tough for me to pin down a final design that will impress. Finally I think I have done it though. Now I gotta play catch-up on the rest.

. . .

I'm about 75% finished with my process book and academic portfolio and about 50% done with my professional one. And my web presence . . . I don't even want to talk about that right now lol. I still need to work on my covers for all three books. I will be printing out my academic portfolio tomorrow (I hope!) so I can get signatures on Tuesday and Wednesday :)

Progress

Yet again I changed my front cover....I'm staring to think that even after this class is over I will change this again. So far I think this is it! Its almost the end of the road and I have my academic portfolio and professional portfolio almost completed. The precess book is also almost done. I hope that at the end I'm happy with the end result.

Progress book

I am creating my progress book, and I think I almost finish my portfolio. Hope I will print everything out next week.

so close

changed my cover again, I think I can relate more with this theme than the previous, hopefully it works.. other than that working on my process book, want to finish early sooo bad. Back to the grind

Coming together

Im so happy that I'm near the end of this project.... the stress is starting to get to me and it will be nice when everything is done.

I finished all my books and now i just need to print them. what do you think the chances are that the printers will be in great working condition today????

I'm crossing my fingers. I am getting my signatures on my portfolio today and that should mark the end of the majority of the stress. Once i print my professional one out I'm going to look into having it printed professionally.

Not too much to report on other then just getting ready to print today :)

See ya~

Almost FINISH

i have been working on the process book. I'm a little more than half way done with it. I scanned everything to my computer, its just a process of getting them place onto my process book. As soon as i get done with that part, I'm going to finish narrating the process book. With my academic portfolio, I'm finishing up taking pictures of my work. As soon as I am done with that, everything else should fall in place. Good thing we have a holiday weekend coming up, this can either really help me, or stress me out even more.

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

oh yaa

I can see the light! takin more pictures today, few more additions and tweaking

Keep on Keepin' On!

With a just a few weeks left, I am really trying to everything done early and be ahead of the game. I finished my process book and looking forward to turning that in. I am currently making a few design changes to my academic portfolio. I'm changing a  few colors and size or boarders, small things like that. As far as my professional portfolio, I have a few structural changes that need to be made. After printing it out i hated a lot of it so I will be redoing that one. I figure if i get the other two out of the way then that will give me plenty of space to work on my professional one.

I also had an interview yesterday with Resen graphic design company. It was really great and I got a lot of great feedback that will hopefully help me improve everything I have at this point.

See ya~

Banana!

I decided to go with a name for my design portfolio and have also created a logo.
still working...
:]

AWM'GAW!!!!!!!

I'm redoing my resume right now. I'm keeping the same design, but I'm tweaking it and putting it on InDesign.

I'm still doing the tedious work of putting all my work in my portfolio. I'm getting things done.

In case any of you were worried, I have a regular sized Pepsi today. All is well again.

I heard the world was ending this weekend...

I've been tirelessly refining my portfolio aesthetic nonetheless. More work to come :D

-timhill.

totally forgot

I need to put more into my process book, it has the least amount of work out into it so ya know what im gona be workin on

Moving On

I've locked in the last remaining details pertaining to my logo, fonts, colors, etc. Finally I can move on and finish some other stuff that I'm running behind on.

New Cover

I'm currently working on a new cover and inside flap for my portfolio. My previous one was really random and didn't say much about me. I feel like the new design I'm going with for my cover is creative and a great replacement to the old cover. It is meticulous work so I know its going to take a while to get done.

not much to report

I have not accomplished much between tuesday and today. Currently I am working on completing my spreads for the portfolio and small adjustments to my resume.

Fixing designs

I am still fixing my designs. I think my portfolio layout is ready, and I want to print it out and see the final result. http://haochenw.carbonmade.com/

IN THE PROCESS

i have bits and pieces pf all for projects. i just need to print some projects out so that i can take some pictures over the weekend. As soon as i do this, the webpage should be done. By doing this, i will get a step closer to finishing up both the academic and professional portfolio. As for the process book. The layout is coming along, but i still need to scan my art papers and exams so that i can complete it. My goal for the coming weekend is to finish my webpage and process book.
I am still placing my work in both my academic and professional portfolio. I still need to finish my design statement and once that is done I will be focusing on my process book. I have a lot to accomplish over the weekend.

Progress Update

I am wrapping up my process book this week and then I'll be working on completing my academic portfolio this weekend. I want to have enough time to be able to set them aside for a couple of days and then open them again to make final modifications. Things always pop out at me once I take a step back.

On the side, I've been thinking about my leave behinds, but I probably won't physically start on those until I have the process book and academic portfolio out of the way.

I'm not too stressed. I know there's lots of work ahead, but that doesn't bother me. As long as I have direction I'm a happy camper :)

Moving forward

I have already finalized my layout for my professional portfolio and I am very pleased with it. I will be using this layout for my academic portfolio and the process book. I don't want to have my portfolios look too different. I believe that they serve different purposes and different people will see them so uniformity is the best thing for me.

Quality over Quantity is Best!

Every time i revisit an idea I end up changing it so the best thing to do, for time purposes and deadlines, is to move forward so I can complete all my projects by the deadlines.

WHAT I'VE BEEN UP 2

WELL I HAVE ALL MY ADJUSTMENTS FINISHED FOR MY PROCESS BOOK, I STILL HAVE TO GET THOSE CRITICAL ANALYSIS OUT THE WAY. THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL IS GETTING BIGGER WHICH MEANS EVERYTHING IS ALMOST DONE. MY NEXT MOVE IS THE ACADEMIC PORTFOLIO WHICH I CAN KNOCK OUT IN A FEW MINUTES. THEN ALL I HAVE TO DO NEXT IS PRINT AND GET SOME AUTOGRAPHS FROM THE OTHER PROFESSORS AND IM GOOD.

Good Progress

I'm done with my process book and now I'm starting on my academic portfolio and web. I feel better then I have been before. I'm making good progress can't wait till this class is over. I should be getting signatures by the end of next week. I just hope I don't have any problems printing.

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

One Down

I finally am done with my process book. it turned out to be around 40 pages..... CRAZY!!!! who knew i thought that much about my projects :) JUST KIDDING BETH! No, but i have my process book done and i'll be printing out my draft of it.... crossing my fingers that the printers are working tomorrow (they wont be)
I have to take one photo for my academic portfolio then Im done. I'll be meeting with my other professors next week to get signatures to get that one out of my hair as well. I added a description for my web content and i will be buying my domain name soon, so that can be a permanent thing.

I look forward to wrapping up the last few things to work solely on my professional one.

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

lil

lil bit of this, lil bit of that.. way better than where I was before but still lots to do, need to be x100 according to Beth. Tightening old things as well as plugging in new, lets go!!

mas progreso

made more progress on my portfolio over the weekend but still not quite up to speed. i'm also contemplating a name/title for my work. hmm...
Finally happy with where i am. I am finished with all of my layouts, and my web presence is complete. I just need to place a few more projects, and work on my leave behind item.

Crunch Time

I pretty much finalized the logo I will be using throughout both portfolio. Crunch Time :D

Working Away

Well I felt that I had to redo my academic portfolio. I felt it was not strong enough, therefore I had to redo a lot of what I had. I'm really stressing out because everything I do is not good, I feel. I hope I finish a lot of it this weekend.

I have a lot of work to do.

Web and Fix

I will keep working on my web and portfolio. Hope it will finish ASAP.
http://haochenw.carbonmade.com/

Adding more work

For my portfolio I'm currently working on adding new works to it. I've been wanting to redo movie posters and album covers of ones that I liked just to add my flavor to it. I feel that if I show how I wanted to redo it people would get a sense of my style. I'm still iffy on the design of my portfolio but I do like the layout of my pages. Lets hope I do get married to this design so I don't have to stress about creating another one.

Hi

Made alot of progress this weekend. hope to show you guys soon.

Update

Sorry for not posting sooner- I almost forgot! Currently I'm working on re-doing my process book. It will follow the format of my professional portfolio.

Login Success!

I didn't get to blog last week due to login fail but as an update I've been bustin my booty trying to get stuff done, I've realized I should get everything done and go back and fix things. I've finished my layout and placed all my images for my academic and professional portfolio and am finishing up my process book today. I see the finish line!

GETTING OVER THE STRESS

This past week was stressful, getting as much as i can with the professional portfolio and the web presence. Good thing is that i know im heading for the right direction. I still have a few things to do, and i dont want to wait for the last minute to do it. the faster i can get this done the less stressful will be for me at the end

Has anyone seen Joey's Pepsi bottle?

That thing is ridiculously big. We need to hold a Pepsi intervention.

So I'm still working on the portfolio, and have settled on all the details that are going to be incorporated throughout. My web presence is pretty much finished, I just need to buy a domain name. Some people have been giving me suggestions concerning whether I should go with ".co" or ".net", but I've settled on ".net". Also, someone pointed out that LauraBurkDesigns.com was open. But I think I want to keep it simple and go with just my name.

I'm pretty sure the final URL will be LauraBurk.net.

But yeah, Joey's Pepsi bottle needs some diet pills.

My bottle of Pepsi is too Big

I figured out some new elements for my portfolio that I think will tie everything together. I started tweaking things a little bit, and I'm starting to think that maybe that isn't such a good idea. I keep tweaking with things until eventually I don't like it and start over. That's not productive. Obviously.

I started putting up more work on my portfolio as well. It's just a matter of getting it on there.

My web presence is kind of bothering, but I'm going to focus on my portfolio for the time being. I hope everything goes smoothly this week.
I am still working on my professional portfolio and academic portfolio. I am also revising my design statement.

I am going to make a few changes on my website.
You can check it later on this week

http://www.wix.com/infinitebloom/infinitebloom

More Revisions

That's all I've been doing, revising...liking it...hating it...and revising again. I'm just gonna pick one and go with it. Errr....

ALL MOST THEIR

I PUT A COUPLE NEW TOUCHES ON THE LAST PROJECT, BUT NOW IM GOIN TO START RENEWING MY ACADEMIC PORTFOLIO. I SHOULDNT HAVE A LOT TO DO JUST A COUPLE THINGS NEED TO BE REARRANGED, AND ALSO I NEED TO DO SOME ORGANIZING AND I SHOULD BE ALL GOOD. I FEEL EVERYTHING AS A WHOLE IS LOOKING PRETTY GOOD SO FAR. I CANT WAIT UNTIL EVERYTHING IS ALL DONE.

RAINY DAY PROGRESS!

So my professional portfolio was starting to look like a scrapbook :/ but I have revised the layout of my pages and I believe it looks more professional.

The process book needs work and I think I'm going to pick a different project to display.

My web presence is the same, I am happy with the way it looks so Im taking it off my to do list.

Its almost the end of the quarter and and now I want to concentrate on putting the finishing touches on all my projects.

WEB IS UP :)

As you all might remember that my web presence from the presentation was super lame. Meeting with my friend fell through so i went to the web building sites that some of you used and developed my own. i am really happy with the end result and i think that it does a great job of showing who I am.

I hope you all like it :) (but in the short run does it matter, you aren't hiring me :) ) That was just a joke!!!!!

anyways since my web is done i am trying to fine tune my academic book and my process book. Get them done so i can solely focus on my professional one.

All in all.... Things are looking up :)

Web Presence.. C:

I have been developing my web presence and I feel that this is something that will be constantly changing, here's my final one for the moment :

http://www.wix.com/rosasdsigns/portfolio

I have also finalized the layout for my professional portfolio and its very similar to the academic portfolio.

Web Presence

http://alexandrarhae.daportfolio.com/

I would appreciate any and all feedback, thanks !

Constantly changing.

Ive been working on my logo and web presence this week. I've been switching back and forth between different versions of logos and believe i have found something I am satisfied with. Here is the link to my web presence thus far right here.

This weekend I should be able to finish

It's still rough but I am headed in the right direction I feel.

Presentation

So as we all know it is presentation day.

I have my professional portfolio like 85% done and my web presence at a lame 25% (and thats being nice). It's not because i don't want to do it or something, I am meeting with a friend next week (a web designer) who is going to give me a few pointers  on how to make it nice and professional. This way I'm not restricted to daportfolios. So i have my web page up for now, but I do plan on changing it in the very near future.

Im excited about my portfolio and I cant wait to show everyone my book.

Hope you all like it :)

ALL DONE I HOPE

WELL EVERYTHING IS ALL READY TO GO. I'VE RE-DONE IT I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY TIMES. I HOPE I EXCEED THE EXPECTATIONS OF WHAT THIS PROJECT IS ASKING FOR. CANT WHAT TA SEE WHAT EVERYBODY ELSE HAS. SEE YA IN CLASS. AND HERE'S MY WEB PRESENCE, IT IS http://www.wix.com/infamouse85/marcus-blackshear. I KNOW ITS KINDA LONG.

Third Time's a Charm :)

Finally! After two failed attempts I was able to find a layout that has a good balance for me. I'm actually finishing things now which feels really good. I have a good start on my Professional Portfolio, and even though I want to redo my academic portfolio and process book this weekend, I know it shouldn't take a massive amount of time since I already have everything together and a strong sense of direction.

I haven't spent as much time as I would have liked on my web presence, but it can be found at http://sarahwinter.carbonmade.com/ . I was able to upload at least a few projects there. I also purchased a domain name at the beginning of the quarter (http://sarahwinterdesign.com/), but so far I have not had a chance to play around with it. I may end up using it, or linking the Carbonmade portfolio to it, but for now this is what I have.

Web is up

WHAT'S UP

TODAY IM FINISHING UP MY WEB PRESENCE. ITS LOOKING PRETTY GOOD SO FAR, IM KINDA HAPPY WITH IT. IM ALSO WORKING ON THINGS FOR MY PRESENTATION. MY PORTFOLIO IS ALMOST FINISHED, I JUST HAVE TO ADJUST A COUPLE THINGS HERE AND THERE. I WISH I HAD JUST A LITTLE MORE TIME TO WORK ON THINGS, BUT HEY WHAT CAN YA DO. THATS ALL FOR NOW UNTIL NEXT TIME

omg omg omg

A lot closer but still far away, I started just doing stuff and jumped in like I was told to, but honestly I'm not happy with what I came up with. I knew that was going to happen but whatevs, hopefully I can make it at least look decent =/

Got It!

I think I have a theme and it's consistent all around. I hope this works, it's simple but I like it a lot. Now that I have a theme going I think everything else will be much easier to work with. I just hope I get to finish by the due date. I'm still working on my process book and now I need to start my portfolio.

Almost there

I stayed home today in order to save myself 3 hours of driving and finish this project up. My web presence is nearly complete, and everything seems to be coming together. I cant wait to see what everyone else has completed.

Web presence

I am working on my web presenc so far. I think my layout has been designed. Now I think I will need finish my whole book and print it out. So far so good...

Layouts and Decesions

I have been working on my web presence so far... it's  a work in progress but my url looks like it's going to be www.queenbeedesigns.dapotfolio.com. I am trying to incorporate everything I want. Also I have been working on my professional portfolio. I have my cover and today I will be working on my layouts. I did some research on other books and binding. So hopefully I am able to take all the interesting things that I saw and my them unique for me.

We'll find out :)

More Changes

I'm trying really hard to be consistent with my portfolios, but I'm struggling with it and I keep changing my mind on my layouts! I'm just not satisfied with it yet . . . although I do feel like my ideas keep getting better (so that's a good sign, right?). Working on finalizing as many things as possible- resume, cover letter, design philosophy. I also still need to figure out how I want to place all of my work in the portfolios . . . Hoping to have lots of things ready to show on Thursday :)

Hello

To prevent forgetting I am updating today.
Ya. I want to just get the formatting done and then improve later instead of trying to complete everything at the same time, it just makes more sense that way.

Thursday, May 5, 2011

I did forget

I went home because I started feeling light headed, but I did make some great progress. I set out how all of the folio's will look and I just might be able to have some great stuff to show next Thursday. Well ...back to work.

Someone please hit fast-forward!

Is the quarter over yet? I just need to come up with an idea that works and I like so I can move on with my portfolio. I've been working on my portfolio and wasting hours perfecting ideas that I don't end up using. Although talking to classmates, sounds like I'm not the only one.
Im slowly advancing.
I am having a hard time figuring out how to place my work in a consistent manner.

I have been working on my web site, i took some time off the portfolio because i was getting too overwhelmed with the layouts. As I develop my web site I am getting a better perspective on how my portfolio feel should look like.

workin through this food coma

hello,
still making more progress on my portfolio. I 've got the general layout down and have began placing my work. I've made changes to my resume and updated the headings i want to include.
i finally feel/see my work becoming more cohesive. yay!
happy cinco de mayo everyone :D

THEMES

Honestly, I'm having a real hard time with my process book and portfolio. I can't stick with one theme, I have so many themes and I'm all over the place I'm not consistent at all and I know I need to be. I'm having such a hard time being motivated to get going. I've been putting things together of things I've done in printmaking and this class and hopefully I can come u with a theme.

And a capital day to you good sir/madame.

This past week I have been refining my design statement and resume. In addition to this i have been working on the construction of my finalized logo. I plan on locking myself in an internet capable room for many moons this weekend in an attempt to accomplish many goals.

byee :D

The gears of productivity go "click"

This week has been slow-going, but I'm still making progress. I decided on my cover for the portfolio and its general layout as well. I'm still working on the layout, but the cover is more or less finished. My resume is done, and I've been applying for a bunch of jobs, in hopes that I'll get an interview for the class.

That's about it for now. Have a good day everyone!

working

I have been working on my resume. I am trying to fine tune the wording and describe my past work experience. I have collected some professional work that I have developed as a layout artist. Next, I need to weed through the pieces and pick the best options to show in the professional portfolio.

finishing up

ive been working on designing my resume. its almost done, and its not too fancy which i like that about it. I have also been working on the different projects that i will use for my professional portfolio. Some of them will be the same as the academic portfolio, but i am also going to use stuff that i have done for TARGET, Empire Parts, and Cash & Advance.

Out With the Old, In With the New

I have started working on my professional portfolio and am thinking more about my web presence. I was having trouble finding/figuring out a grid that would work with my current format, so I've decided to try something new on my professional portfolio. I'm keeping the same fonts and color scheme, so I think the three portfolios will still work together, but I still may end up re-structuring my process book . . . It will be more work in the end but I know I'll be more satisfied with it.

In some ways I feel like I'm back in the research phase of my process, which is very frustrating- but hey, this is a learning process :)

I'm Stuck

Reworking my logo and concept is not going very well. Once I get past this phase it should all be down hill right?

Updated Web Portfolio

I updated my web portfolio. The color scheme is lighter (it's much sleeker now), the degree/skills/biography section is updated, and it's now streamlined to where it only showcases my graphics skills. Before I had also mentioned music work, but decided it only cluttered the portfolio and made it less effective.

If you remember before, I had a section called "Junk Drawer" in which I put random photos, paintings, drawings, and photo manipulation. I decided to scrap that and put an Apparel Design section in its place. I'm much happier with the result.

If you're interested in checking it out, click here.

The next step is actually securing a domain name. As I mentioned before, LauraBurk.com is taken, but LauraBurk.net and LauraBurk.co are available. I'm worried that people will see LauraBurk.co and automatically think it's a typo, and try to go to .com before realizing that it isn't. What do you guys think?

wth

Honestly just a work in progress, lil bit of this, lil bit of that.. not much to say. Get er done

Finally

The final version of my portfolio (jacket?) is done. I think it turned out really nice. I also reworked my resume. I feel like i am finally starting to get somewhere.

5.5

I tried to redesign my portfolio and everything, but I cant stopping thinking my original idea. I dont know why I couldnt focus on my works. I think I need a new logo to instead these squares. I designed a new layout of my portfolio, but still I am working on it.

Changing my look

So far I've been working on my professional portfolio and my web presence. It took me awhile to actually choose it but I think I've got the look I want for my web presence. I know its going to take a lot of work but I'll have my web presence up and running by next week. I wanted a different look for my professional portfolio from my academic one and I hope I'm going in the right direction.

WORKIN HARD

UMMM. NOTHING HAS CHANGED TOO MUCH STILL DOING THE SAME THINGS SUCH AS WORKING ON MY PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO, ITS LOOKIN GOOD SO FAR, I KINDA LIKE THE LAYOUT. MY WEB PRESENCE IS ALMOST DONE AS WELL. I STILL HAVE A COUPLE MORE THINGS TO DO HERE AND THERE BUT I'LL BE FINE. THATS ALL FOLKS

Looking to be creative

After almost finishing my academic portfolio and be being pretty much done with my process books. I am looking for a way to make my professional portfolio stand out but still look like all my books came from the same person. I think I have a few good ideas and Im starting to work with them to see how they would pan out in real life. So as of class tomorrow I will be working on my professional portfolio and making it spiffy :)

Peace Out Cub Scout....

better late than never

today I came late to class, i've been working non-stop since the last class, have restarted my portfolio many times and finally feel like i'm going in the right direction. i'm hoping after printing today, i can still make some improvements. next thursday is haunting me!

finally gaining direction

actually made some headway over the weekend with my academic portfolio. I have a better idea of what i want it to look like as far as style and layout and i'm workin toward that goal. i've also made more progress on my process book.

REDESIGN

Over the weekend i thought of how I want my professional portfolio to look like. I dont want to do one solid color, I want to be more created and come up with a cover that will catch peoples eyes. One problem..... I cannot come out with anything. I am also working on my resume. I decided to design it and make it stand out. other than that, I have been working on the rest of my professional portfolio, and on my process book.

I CANT BELIEVE ITS WEEK 5 ALREADY
Ahhh!!!!!!!!!

almost forgot.

I am in class reading a book about grid design because my portfolio is not organized at all. I hope the learning material helps. i feel alot better about the directions of my portfolios. Still not to the point where I want to show them off but....ya.

Going Online

I figured out exactly what I'm going to do for my web site. I found a host with great templates but now I just need to wait a couple days to get the money. I'm now 99% done with my academic portfolio.

same story, diff day

Ive had some stuff going on and havent really got as much as I wanted done. I do have my web presence forum down, just need to finalize it. Now just back to everything else I been workin on, I want to focus on my biz cards, but keep wanting to work on everything at once, this is overwhelming.
I redid the layout for my academic portfolio. I decided to use Infinite Bloom as the official name for my portfolios. I redid the logo by creating a peacock/flower. The flower will be the main design element for my portfolio. I feel that I am still behind but I feel that I have the hardest part done, my identity.

On the right track . . .

I'm making progress, but I'm still not as far along as I had hoped to be at this point. I wanted to be finished with at least my Process Book, but I'm still inserting pictures and finalizing my comments. I know how I want my Academic Portfolio to look so I feel like that's a good sign, and I have ideas for my business cards, etc. that will tie in with the portfolios.

I also figured out a way to fix my portfolio layout so I won't have a strange right justified text box (thanks to everyone who commented on that last week!) This week(end) I'm really going to focus on my cover pages. I need to find something that makes them all unique but also unifies them.

Stage 1 1/2 ://

This weekend i started working on my web presence and still trying to come up with a cover for my portfolio that "says" something about me. I never thought it would be so difficult to respond the question..."what does it say about you?"

Also I'm still remaking some projects for the portfolio and trying to decide what to include on my professional portfolio.

Project Layouts and Corsages

Yup, still working on the 'folio. I'm working on project layouts at this point, trying not to make it look too much like a yearbook. Although I'll probably still vote myself "Most Likely to Succeed".

Who's gonna take me to prom?

LATELY

WELL I'VE BEEN PRETTY BIZZY LATELY WITH OTHER THINGS BUT I'VE MANAGED TO GET SOMETHINGS DONE. I'VE ADDED A COUPLE THINGS TO MY WEB PRESENCE, I STILL HAVE MORE TO ADD THO. I HAVE THE FORMAT FOR MY PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO, I STILL WANT TO SEE A COUPLE MORE EXAMPLES OF WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE SO I CAN HAVE A GOOD IDEA TOWARD THE DIRECTION I WANT TO GO. WELL THATS ALL FOR NOW. BACK TO WORK

TOO MUCH!

After last class, I had a lot to do. I was going the wrong way with the process book. With work it's really hard to get things done. I have redo my process book and redo my logo, because no initial are allowed. I've been spending so much time retouching my other projects that I really don't have an idea on how I want my process book to look like. I'm thinking shapes, but I don't know. I have so much to do, I'm starting to stress out between this class the other two, work and my son I'm starting to feel like this will be a challenge for me.

Until next time.

Things are looking up!!!!

Since last class, I reworked my process book and I am now only missing a few photos I need to take. I also finished my process book :) whoo hoo!!!!!!

I decided to keep the process book and academic portfolio fairly similar, I changed the accent colors and the size to make them different. But the over all look is fairly similar.

I plan to work on my professional portfolio and change the look to show off two different styles. I want my web presence and professional portfolio to look  similar.

I feel like as of right now I am ready to work on the second part of the project a keep on track. Good to know that I'm not falling behind... at least I don't think so :)

portfolio redone

So I redid my portfolio and I like it more than my previous layout and design but I'm still not sure if it's going to be my final academic portfolio that I submit. I presented what I had today and I hope it went well. I still have a lot of work ahead of me but for now more work on my academic portfolio and working on my process book has to be done!

It's gonna be a long day

I haven't got much done since last class (because of my wild social life :) ) so im planning on spending the ENTIRE evening to stay and get some work done. Tonight I want to get the final look and layout of what the inside will look like so I can start mowing though and getting stuff done. SLUT

i dont know!!!!

ok so have been working on my layout for each page. I decided to incorporate this little cartoon character into each slide and I love the way it turned out now I am still working on how I want to display my work on each individual page.

4.28

I tried to put my logo into a pattern. Also trying to simple my portfolio design. I think my layout is very complex and has no focus point. Work!Work!Work!

Photo Shoot

I am done with the last of my packaging shots. It was kind of a pain but they came out really nice so it was worth it. I'm now finished with dressing up my portfolio projects.
Our last class meeting has helped me get a good idea of what I need to do. I have been trying to rearrange my work by class projects. I am also working on redesigning the brush pattern one of the main elements in the design of my portfolio. I want to avoid anything busy and overwhelming, my projects should be able to stand out. I feel I have a long way to go.
Last class was a definite wake-up-call for me. I thought i was in shape, as far as getting work done, but i learned some things in the last class that i was previously unaware of. I am kind of disappointed because i have my process book complete and ready to print, but it does not correspond with my academic portfolio. So, it looks like i will be redoing this in the coming days.

Since the last class i have reorganized the order of my projects in my portfolio. I really like the idea of organizing it by class. I have also built another mock up of the cover of my portfolio. I want to make sure that it is clean and does not distract from the physical portfolio.

Fork in the road

......So I went straight. I put more emphasis on the reading material and looking at the samples of my peers before committing to a particular idea. I have the motif of my academic portfolio planned out. As mentioned in class I will be including basic design elements that we have learned in class as a background template for my work, The color spectrum, Gridlines, values and tints, etc to make it academic like, lol. Also as mentioned previously Tuesday I will be using various elements to separate my work by color for each section and depending on the value of the particular piece I will add a particular stroke to make it contrast with the background. White trim for black and black trim for predominantly lighter value pieces. Have a good day.

aw mann

Still havent figured out the design element yet for either and it's bugging the crap out of me. Think I need to listen to Beth and just jump right in even if its bad =/ .. I think I found a website to put my portfolio, semi-pricey tho so idk if i'm gona end up goin with this one. Found some older works that I think will go well in the professional portfolio, they DEF need touching up though. That's pretty much it for now, hopefully get some inspiration this weekend.

Forming an Aesthetic

I've finally settled on a direction I'm heading with in my portfolio. I feel that it represents my style perfectly; it focuses heavily on typography, quirky imagery, and creative wording, while still maintaining a lot of breathing room through usage of white space.

I'm treating my portfolio like a neutral gallery wall. On the pages that showcase my work, the design will be extremely minimal so as not to compete with my pieces. But I'm allowing myself to experiment with the pages in between.

Octopi and centipedes may or may not be implemented. (You'll see what I mean.)

In the meantime, I'm still formulating an artist statement. I have placeholder Lorem Ipsum text in the layout at this point.

I can't think of a good way to end this post, so Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit, sed diam nonummy nibh euismod tincidunt ut laoreet dolore magna aliquam erat volutpat. Ut wisi enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exerci tation ullamcorper suscipit lobortis nisl ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. Eodem modo typi, qui nunc nobis videntur parum clari, fiant sollemnes in futurum.

WUT I'VE BEEN DOIN

SINCE OUR PRESENTATION AND SEEING THE WORK OF MY OTHER CLASSMATES IT KIND OF INSPIRED ME TO TAKE MY MATERIAL ANOTHER STEP FURTHER AND MAKE IT EVEN BETTER. AS OF NOW IM WORKING ON MY BOOKLET FOR MY PROFESSIONAL PORTFOILIO. I ALREADY DECIDED WHAT PROMO ITEMS I WANTED TO INCLUDE SO ALL I HAVE TO DO IS ARRANGE THE LAYOUT OF THEM IN A WAY THAT LOOKS OUTSTANDING.

Too Much Work, So Little Time

So ive been playing with the different colors for my academic portfolio. I realize that it was TOO MUCH blue. I want to have some white pages, but still keep the CLEAN and SIMPLE consistency of the academic portfolio. I have also been working on how I am going to arrange the portfolio. I need to print some stuff out, and take some pictures. My goal is to be done with the academic portfolio by the end of the weekend. I also started on my process book. I kept the same consistency as my academic portfolio. On top of all this, im also working on the professional portfolio as well as on the website. There is so much to do, and not that much time to do it. As long as I dont stress out TOO MUCH, everything will get done in time.

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

REWORKING.....AGAIN :/

So I have been working on my portfolio. After looking at more examples I feel like I have figured out a way to keep the theme consistent but make the book much more simple. I also separated out the process books from my portfolio.  I misunderstood that part and i put them in one book originally. I am trying to stay with the print of the honeycomb, but change the colors and sizes to differentiate between books (according to their purpose). My academic portfolio will have a pink undertone and the process book will have a purple undertone. I think that after a few days of tweaking, things will be pretty close to where i want them so i can start to tackle my professional portfolio as well as my web presence.

Nervous About Project

There are a lot of things that are not really working out for me. For starters Im having a hard time getting the material for my process book :( Im a bit nervous about this. I have decided on a layout for my portfolio.

DESIGN STATEMENT OUTLINE

good link on how to write a design statement :)

http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCUQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fintranet.mcad.edu%2Fmodules%2Fds%2Fassets%2F004%2FWriting_A_Design_Statement.pdf&rct=j&q=design%20statement&ei=Qk63TYfQOuzSiAKSpIAV&usg=AFQjCNEZe0ZBMtS9yM3EgnMe67YRW46wsw&cad=rja

Figuring things out

Since last class... I have been working on my portfolio book. I think that I am finally in the right direction in terms of design to the book as well as coming up with type of branding image. I have a good feeling about what I've come up with so far, and I'm excited to see how everything works out in terms of what I will be presenting today.

So far I have a basic portfolio book layout and branding, and all my written works for the portfolio.

Hope you all like it :)

SSSSuper confusing

不知道为什么一直没有办法集中设计. 我想展现我自己独特的一面 但是我却没有办法用我的元素表现出来.很烦躁......如何用排列设计好我的简历呢? I am SSSSuper confusing now. How can I design my portfolio better? How can I use my element well? A lots questions need to fix...

Lotta work

Ok so I've been real busy with this portfolio, I'm making it way harder of a process than it should be. I like how it's coming out though. I finally got all my design pieces in it last night. I drafted a cover letter this morning and finished everything just in time for class today. More to come later...

Progress for Today

I finally have the basic feel and colors picked for the layouts of my portfolios, resume, etc. I hope to finish my academic portfolio and process book this weekend :)

ok???

ok so now I am still finding and piecing together work. I have about 12 I think i just need like a couple more. I found some old papers and I created a resume and cover letter. So that is my deal today to find more work and work on my design statement. My process book is complete.

STEP 1

Well, I got as much done as I possibly can, but feel that I still a whole lot to do. At least I got started on it. I did not get a chance to start on the introductory letter, I have a feel for it, I think I know what I want to do, but might change my mind. I hope this turns out to be good project.

I'm starting to feel overwhelmed.

WHAT I GOT SO FAR

WELL SO FAR I'VE BEEN LOSING SLEEP TRYING TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT, BUT I MANAGED TO GET A LOT DONE. I WISH I HAD ANOTHER DAY BUT I GUESS IT IS WHAT IT IS. TODAY I JUST PUT THE FINAL TOUCHES ON EVERYTHING, AND ALSO MAKING SURE EVERYTHING IS WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE. I HOPE YOU GUYS LIKE IT.

are done yet?

ok, the stress is only getting worse. I think i fished my cover, I layout what is on each page and I put my resume in the portfolio. I am still struggling with what theme to go with, make it me without making it too girly. I am ready for our presentations and i look forward to seeing where the rest of the class is.

late start

Up until now I have been putting most of my effort and time on reading the course material thoroughly. Hence/therefore my first draft is not all that refined (very rough). The reading and brainstorming up until now has been beneficial and now I feel like I can start making a portfolio.

Long Weekend

Well this was for sure the longest weekend i have ever endured, and not in a good way. Who pulls an all nighter doing homework on a saturday lol. Anywho, I had a lot of work to do. This weekend i reworked several projects, retook mock up photos, assembled my entire process book, and solidified the look of my portfolio. Phew.... not sure if its enough, but i gave it my all!

Huh?

Slightly confused and hoping its going to turn out right, last minute tweaks going down as of now. Couple more things to finish, but the theme isn't quite hashed out all the way. =/ Well got to get it done.

All nighters

So far, i have the concept of my process book done. I know what im going to do, its just a matter of getting it done. With my academic portfolio, I have my cover page along with other pages done. The only problem is that im not convince of it being my best work. I have been working on them for the past week and a half, and its still need some work. I have all night to do it, and hope i can come up with some of my best work. Im just trying to come up with the same team for my entire portfolio, and make it all smooth and original at the same time. AHHH!!!!!! this is going to be one LONG night.

Still workin'

I've got the concept and theme for my portfolio now figured out. I designed the front cover I think it's coming along nice so far.

Weathering the storm

Since last class I've just been working away. I'm still sick so I've been trying to get rid of it but nothing seems to be working. I'm just hoping that I'll be fine by next week. But I'm continuing to work and I've finished my resume. I've been looking around at websites and I don't really like the options I have when it comes to the free sites so it looks like I'm going to fork out some cash for a good website but I don't mind. I do also feel like its very hard to pick a theme for the portfolio. I have several ideas in mind but its hard to just pick one design. Well have a great weekend and good luck on your 1st drafts.

This week

I have been investigating the different components needed to pull together a central theme in displaying my work with in a portfolio. I have chosen the font jf_Ringmaster for an ornate display font and am still looking for a more plain font to pair with this font. I have decided on the three projects that will be addressed in the process book.

bye............ :D

Lay out

I am still design my layout. I want my portfolio look clean and simple, but in my mind are the patterns and complex designs. Also, I am trying to design my logo. Hopefully, I can finish my draft asap...

uh huh!!

I have been still redesigning my projects trying to make them a lot better with the new things I have learned over the years. I went on an interview it went extremely well and now I'm waiting on the phone call saying I got it lol..... now I just need to write my paper on the interview and finish my projects for the first turn in assignment on Monday.

WUT I'VE BEEN UP 2

over the past day or two ive been working on a theme for my for my portfolio. Im thinking about just find one on the web but then again i have a couple ideas in mind that i wanted to try out first. ive also been working on my intro and resume, it looks alright so far but i have a couple of adjustments to make.

Portfolio Inspiration

Throughout my time at Cal State, one of the things that has kept me moving forward as a designer is finding inspiration from outside sources. Seeing work from artists that make me feel like my stuff is complete crap is the best thing I could ever do for myself. Unless I have something to aspire to, I won't have any motivation to improve.

That being said, finding portfolio inspiration has been something that keeps my mentality focused and helps me get a grasp of the competition I'm facing. If you need a boost, I hope this post will help you a bit.

Here are a couple sites for you all to check out (if you're interested):

Happy 4/21 (Recovery day).
I agree with Virginia, this is way harder then it seemed at the beginning. I think once I lock down a theme it will move along a lot faster. Since class i looked and researched other portfolios so I can decide on what to do and get started. I also layout the academic portfolio in indesign with each page labeled.

Post 3

I have been studying the course material and working with a few layouts. I am looking forward to the presentation critic so I can make my portfolio stronger through peer evaluation.

PROGRESS????

This is harder then I thought, coming up with an idea for my portfolio it's difficult. I really don't have a clue yet of what my portfolio will look like. I want to keep my portfolio simple, cohesive and professional. I went on the blurb website and they actually have layouts that you can work out of. It takes you step by step. So I thought that was very helpful now I need to come up with a design. So much to do and so little time. I feel so overwhelmed. I'm starting to stress a lot. I hope it all works out on my first presentation. I'm sure I'll get some feedback, I hope.

WHOOO HOOO!

So since last class I have been really trying to find some kind of inspiration about what I wanted to do for my portfolio. I really want my portfolio to be something I think represents me and displays my skills. I am really excited because I had a break through and I finally figured out what I want to do for my layout. I came up with a few sketches to make sure I keep focus and I think my plan is great. I have been working on my resume and statements and letters. So now I just need to make my sketches a reality, but I'm so pumped that i made this break through. It feels good when a good idea hits you and you can be excited about it.

Progress

I am almost finished touching up my 3 "inception to completion" projects, and have started to write up narratives for those pieces. I have also been working on refining my other projects.

I have a pretty good idea of how I want to lay out my portfolios and process book, so tomorrow I plan to jump into that. I may have to refine the design later (hopefully not much), but I'll feel better once I at least have all of the work merged together into the layouts they need to go :)

Resume Done !

I missed last class, but made sure that i used the time i missed to keep moving along. I feel like these deadlines are coming up quick. So in the last few days i have completed my resume and also began to put together a presentation that i can show next tuesday. The presentation will include my page layouts, but i do not think i will have time to print and bind my project. So i have also put together a page to show what my physical portfolio will look like to be included in my presentation. This is my plan thus far, cant wait to see what everyone else has come up with.

d's update

Currently working on my process book, searching for old art history papers/tests. I've also selected the 3 projects I am going to include.

The website I've decided to go with is carbonmade.com (thanks for the idea Stephanie), which is free and very limited but I have the option to upgrade it later to get my own domain and more project/image uploads.

Doing Work

Well since the last post I've been reading the book and I really feel the reading material is going to help my portfolio to be a strong one and to represent me in the best way possible. I've also been looking for websites but I haven't found anything quite yet because I'm a very picky person. I've also got all the works I want to be in my portfolio, but my beginning works from earlier classes have some work to be done. I've been sick for a couple days so I won't be in class today but I'll be working from home to get more work done.

Fine Tuning

This week I have begun to rework and brainstorm on how to refine my past projects. Also, I have been considering a central theme for my portfolio which would suit and efficiently display my work. This coming week I plan on developing several components necessary for the portfolio to come to fruition.

It goes

I think I have figured out most projects that I want to include in my portfolio, but I'm still not sure. I don't know how so many of you have figured it out already, this is difficult for me.

I have done more research on portfolio, resume, and cover letter designs. I'm focusing on that because I figure the sooner I get an awesome resume, the sooner I'll get an interview. I started tweaking my portfolio by taking out irrelevant information that I had previously considered necessary. I am working on my logo design, and I'm liking what I have so far.

=)

Web Portfolio

So far I have been searching for website options. I found this free and easy to use website, CarbonMade.com, it allows you to create your web portfolio in a simple web design. There is a limit of images you can put up but if you want more options you can upgrade for $12/month. I started mine by uploading some photography work of mine since I am still editing some of my design work.

My domain address is:
infinitebloom.carbonmade.com

The only thing I didn't like is that you have to add carbonmade to the domain address. If this creates a problem for the assignment then I will continue searching.

Im still looking for some work I created back in Graphic Design 1. :/

Recently Works

I collected my works and started to design my portfolio layout. I really want to see others designer's portfolios I think that will be very helpful. I will put some designs into my personal portfolio, I think that it is getting important for a designer know many things; such as 3d design, website design, or photograthy...

Sooo.. Yeah

Ive been really trying to get a grasp on the feel of my portfolio and conveying the type of designer I am and its been a challenge but I think I almost have it down. As far as physical, in the middle of compiling projects I have about 7 and still figuring out the rest. I did get my resume done over the weekend and am glad that's out of the way. For now just chip chip chipping away, hopefully when I look up, the sculpture will be done soon.

The Hunt Begins...

We're required to either visit a museum or get a job interview during this course, and considering my goal is to have a job secured before graduation, I'm obviously opting for the interview.

It's been a while since I've had to job hunt. I remember when I first started at CSUSB I was looking for work like a madwoman. I applied to over 32 places, none of which I heard back from (except for an email from Target that said "Sorry, we're not hiring"...which, if that was the case, what's up with the giant "HIRING" sign next to the automatic door?). Being aware that I was completely overqualified for most of the work I was applying for, I'd made this sketch out of frustration:

This time around it's a little different. I'll have a degree, and the jobs I'm looking for are competitive. I want something with good pay, benefits, and...well, lets be honest...something I can be proud to say I do.

Finding sources for these opportunities has proven to be a bit tough. Right now my search has been purely online, places like SimplyHired.com or Monster.com. But I'm snooping around to see if I can catch wind of somewhere better. (As soon as I know, I'll let you all in on the secret...until you start snatching interviews from me.)

And now, to keep you entertained, a quote from ClientsFromHell.net:

"Can you make the red of that traffic light more red? Google ‘red’ to find different shades."

See you all in class.

where AM I now??

I have started to create my resume and cover letter. I am still working on getting my projects in order but it is a little harder then I would have expected. I recently am going on an interview with a job offer for a graphic designer so as soon as I am done I can start that paper.

Progress Report 1

I have really been trying to set up the foundation of the "look" of my portfolio.
In addition I placed all of the files I want to work on in an organized file system, so I can check them off one by one.
Furthermore the assigned course reading thus far has been very informative. I feel confident my portfolio will be very strong.

Making progress!

This weekend was about writing my personal statement, making my resume and thinking about how I want to lay out my portfolio. I have already updated two of my projects and I've lay out my personal statement and resume. I am currently working on my introduction and I'm trying to be as creative as I can.

So far so good

I'm still touching up projects, I also photographed a piece yesterday that I want to include. I'm getting a better sense of what I want the portfolio to be. I've also created a personal logo to better brand myself. That's all, folks.

WHAT I DID

Over the past couple days i had a few prior engagements i had to deal with but i still managed to get some things done. I did a lot of research on design resume's and portfolios to give me a better idea of how a professional one was suppose to look like. i also continued to touch up some of my work that i wanted to include in my portfolio. The website is alright so far, but don't expect an all out professional one because this is the first site I've ever done; i'm still a beginner. Everything seems to be coming along well. wish me luck

Lots of Ideas

I did a lot over the weekend, worked on my cover letter and resume. My resume needs some work it's too short. The resume I have is over two pages but it's not graphic design related and therefore it's too short. My cover is done but I need some input. I have lots of ideas for my portfolio but can't get it down. Sometimes I wish I can just think of my ideas and it automatically converts my ideas onto the computer, someone should invent that. I just hope I can come up with something chic and innovative that represents who I am as a person and designer. I am still working on editing some of the work, I will be using last quarters projects which were some success not too much to edit, thank goodness.
I didn't have much time this weekend to work on my portfolio but I did think about some things. The web presents will be an online portfolio that I can put on my printed resume so future employers can see work and have an updated view of my work. I also laid out what I want to put in my portfolio and put them into the order in which I want them displayed.

Cohesive Design

I spent more time this weekend researching, looking (and yes, reading :) through the textbooks, and just thinking about how I want my portfolio to come together. I feel slightly behind because I haven't physically started to design my portfolio, but I feel like this planning stage will save me time in the long run. I tend to get ahead of myself and dive right in, only to change my mind later . . . and I want everything to be cohesive, so I know that I need things mapped out ahead of time.

I will be using my three packaging projects from last quarter for my "inception to completion" designs in my process book. I need to photograph my mockups for two of those projects and tweak some of the other things in there, but I'm hoping those designs will need the least amount of attention from me. Plus, I liked those projects, so I know for sure I want to use them :)

I feel like my style has really changed over the projects, which I guess can be a good thing, but I'm still trying to find a way to pull it all together. Oy, lots of work ahead- but as Armando said, "Day by Day." And I'm trying not to stress either :)

Over the weekend

I though a lot over the weekend of what designs i am going to use for my academic portfolio, i brought it down to about 12. I realize that i have work to do, in order to make them as perfect as i want them to be. I have also been looking over the books and the different portfolio ideas, they are all creative. I am not sure what style i am going to go for in my portfolio, but I am hoping for a good one. There is a lot of work to do this week. My goal is not to to stress and just take it day by day.

Thinking outside the box

So I had a long weekend trying to figure out a good way to establish my web presence. I figure once I  figure out how i want to represent myself online, the book design part will fall into place. I have been researching so many different web portfolios and trying to find one that fits my style and what i want to say about me. i have been working with new programs and dabbing into different ideas trying to find a light at the end of this confusing tunnel. So far not too much luck, but i am confident i will figure it out in the end, i really have no choice to.

I will start to rework my projects, but i haven't even touched my book yet. I'm trying to ave  solid direction before i just throw knives in the ark and waste a bunch of time and effort.

That's it from me for now....

Portfolio Design

Over the weekend i began to design my portfolio itself. I made many small models of how i would like it to look, and below is my favorite thus far. The back cover wraps around and folds over the front making one contained package. When open, the inside of the flaps will contain all of the information you would need to know upfront. On flap A i would like to have a short artist Bio, Flap B will contain my resume, and Flap C will have a pocket for a CD with digital files of my work. I plan on continuing to work with this idea, and make improvements, if anyone has any ideas please send them my way.

fun stuff

I've gone through all my old work and have selected 11-15 projects I've decided to include in my portfolio, of course after I make some changes. I think my next step is to draft a cover letter & resume. yay. I've also gotten 2 of the 3 books.

Haven't thought about a url yet.

First Blog

Since the last class I've decided on the projects that will be in my professional and student portfolios. I also went to Barnes and Nobles Tuesday evening and also bought another design portfolio book. I been also researching online at other example to come up with ideas.

...o yeah and missing beth dearly

Progress I can believe in

Thus far I've started going through my old files and weeding out the projects I don't really want to see in my portfolio. Starting tomorrow I'll start going through what is left and pick out the ones I really want.

Also I'm figuring out my url name. I would also like to put another sentence here so that it doesn't seem as if I'm trying to emphasize that last sentence by making it the only one in the paragraph. =)

Yesterday I did a lot of research on writing cover letters and resumes in the design community. I realized I've been doing it terribly wrong for about a year now, which was bittersweet. Time to work on that, too.

Hi :D

I have gone through and chosen close to 15 pieces to be placed in my portfolios this past week. These pieces need different levels of attention and I am excited to see my portfolio come together. I have also been brainstorming as to a name for a url.

Do Work

So I've found about 13-15 projects that I would like to include in my portfolio. I do see a lot of room for improvement on older projects and I do feel like it'd be a lot easier to rework old projects rather than come up with new ones. I do want my portfolio to be a strong reflection of who I am as a designer and student so I've got some work to do to get it up to par but I'm up for the challenge. So it's time to DO WORK.

STAGE 1

I finally decided what projects I am going to include in my portfolio. I must say that all of them need to be edited. I have some artwork I did for Graphic Design 1 and 3 that I cannot seem to find :( I know they were saved on the server but apparently they got erased. I know! I need to be more organized.

I decided to include some work from my internship at Loma Linda University.

I started looking at websites to use for my web presence.

Stage 1

For the stage 1, I found my artworks at csusb. I also found many things of my art works to improve. I was wondering if I can put my photograpy works in my portfolio, because that also another way to show myfself.

WORK WORK WORK

So i have chosen my work, I have about 10-12, not much, but its projects that I have been proud of. Some of these projects need a lot of work. Ill be working on editing the projects today and this weekend, hope to be done by sunday. For the website name, I'm thinking of using Armencia Designs. Armencia is just my first and last name put together. I have work to do this weekend.

Where AM I??

So, I have started finding my 15 projects for my Portfolio and many of them need some work. I am very excited to be doing the work on these projects because I believe that over these years I have learned a lot and I am excited to see how great they are going to be afterwards. I have also been thinking about how I am going to structure my designs and how I am going to make my portfolio scream me. So, I still have a lot of work ahead of me.

The Start to the End!

Stage 1
So far i've been trying to select what projects to use and what can be perfected. I am trying to develop a structure to show my work and for now I am working on my personal statement, on the letter of introduction and my resume. I feel that once I start revising my work the layout design for my portfolios will be easier to create.

(boof boof) is this thing on?

So going through my designs from all the classes, I have some pretty good things to put in the portfolio. Unfortunately some need more work than others lol. Overall I am still proud of the things I have done and even though I am not great yet, I am definitely at a point to where I know my weaknesses and strengths as a designer and am excited about self-recognition because that is the first step towards overall improvement. Let's get to work!

First Post

I have selected 15 designs that I will improve and ultimately place in my portfolio.
I am working on my website.

THE UPDATE

LOOKING AT ALL MY WORK FROM DESIGN 1 THROUGH 4 I CAN TELL THAT IM GETTING BETTER AS A DESIGNER, I KNO ITS NOT THE BEST WORK IN THA WORLD BUT AYE IM PROUD WITH IT. AS OF NOW IM JUST TOUCHING UP A COUPLE THINGS HERE AN THERE HOPEFULLY EVERYTHING WILL COME TOGETHER CONSISTENTLY TO MAKE AN OUTSTANDING PORTFOLIO. THERE'S STILL A LOT OF WORK TO B DONE SO EVERYDAY IM GOING TO TRY AND PUT SOME WORK IN TOWARDS COMPLETING THIS WHOLE THANG.

Getting Started

I'm getting all my design work together and by the looks of it I'm going to be doing a lot of editing. I'm really excited about the class especially the interview part, but a lot of work to be done. I don't have a name for my website yet, but I'll come out with something.

A Bit of Touch Up Work

My 15 projects have been picked and i am really excited to start reworking some of them. It is really exciting to see how far i have progressed since Graphic Design 1. I have decided that i am going to start polishing up some of my latest work, while it is still fresh in my mind, and then work my way backwards.

Below is my Work from Graphic Design 4.

Holistic Hound Dog Food
• I am going to lighten the color of the cardboard texture
• I am going to adjust the color of the logo so that it stands out amongst the rest of the design

Peruvian Choice Instant Coffee
• I plan to change the color of the tree in this particular flavor so that it stands out against the background. Otherwise i am happy with the final result of this project.
• While it may not seem so here, the contrast between the tree and the background is not as strong as it is in the other flavors. I would like them to all have the same contrast.

Get Up and Go Granola
• I want to create a new logo so that it fits better in the given space.

Other than working on these three project i have been trying to think of a domain name. If you think that you can't find one involving your name try having the name Alex Smith. It's a bit generic i know. I am open to suggestions, so send them my way.
